National YM Sports 2009

Another Great Calendar Activity

There is not an over abundance of Christian activities, well social ones I mean, so you can very well understand my saying that Christian youths may be very well starved for opportunities to be together just enjoying good, clean Christian company.

The National Youth Ministry (YM) fun day is a National YM agenda first-timer but I can tell you, in my estimation it’s here to stay.

Making sure it was logged into my calendar of activities months earlier I anticipated good fellowship. Christian people together in one place, the main reason being sports, then add to that food and good music.

I don’t know about you but that had my name written all over it. A recipe for an unforgettable encounter.

Already National YM has been laying its mark as a group set to changer the culture when it comes to Christian entertainment and upliftment.

So after two power-packed camping encounters at Camp Alpha on the Linden Soesdyke Highway for hundreds of people with not a dull moment, along with our calendar highlight National YM Convention this time at the National Sports Hall. We were making a name for ourselves.

Then I had the good pleasure of being at Bladen Hall North for the East Coast YM Crusade. That was totally awesome.

So I was highly anticipating the fun day, actually I was more than ready for another encounter with my YM family.

So I suppose like a lot of my peers, my day began with a short trip down the Linden Soesdyke Highway digging some radical sounds with my traveling companion Ryan bound for the Demerara Cricket Ground known by most as the DCC Ground.

I was just in time for the March Past interrupted by a sudden shower of rain. But that was that after our raining encounter of approximately ten minutes the show was on the road again, this time to excellent weather which remained that way until the curtain came down on a totally awesome day.

There were athletic events, cricket, football, the launch of the KD Awards and a number of novelty activities that were totally fun.

The blind fold race is always a number for a really good laugh, and it was no different in this instant. Some people went in different directions far removed from the finish line and it was absolute fun to watch them totally unaware of where they were going.

I was blown away too by the response in general to participating in every event. That was wonderful and a powerful statement of family.

I must clear the air though just in case you were thinking there were no seriously competitive activities. There were outstanding performances in the 100m, 200m and relays. It was pleasing to know we have national athletes in our Christian community.

Usain Bolt will have to watch himself y’all.

The majority of the afternoon was spent rolling out the novelty events. There was supposed to be a race for Pastors and one for YM executive members. But it did not happen. I voice my disappointment here and now because I missed seeing Pastor Sills and Pastor Singh making a mad dash for the finish line. Totally unfair.

There was supposed to be more cheering too. Again I protest. So you know what you should be doing next time. Cheer louder.

The crux of the matter however, is that the East Coast (Section 5) trounced every other section. Watch it!

There is simply no complaint about the running commentary for the day though, especially for the cricket and football matches. Man, was Bro. Bobby on a roll, his rhymes were like they were hot off a skillet. Plain and simple the man got skills. No competition really for Ian Bishop but I actually thought about it.

Then there was the Kingdom Diplomats (KD) Awards launch. Listen to the sound of that. This is going to be a big event. Glitz, glamour, talent, the works. A hard working team is set to bring everything together for a truly unforgettable event. You should be like me and get on your marks now.

Their showing brought us up to speed with the likes of Christ-like soldiers and other fresh performing artists in the Christian circle who had the crowd rocking to mostly new sounds. Then there was a showing of KD fashion. This revealed new designers and totally new looks for the Christian.

But you must know this was to create a taste of what is likely to be at what will be the most coveted event come October 2010. These outfits had the crowd crazy. Actually, I really believe this was a great way to get people buzzing about out big event. Nice move.

All in all it was a splendid day, food and all. Thanks Mr. DJ, the next good thing were the good vibes that ‘flowed’ all day.

Kudos to the planning and execution committee. Also kudos to Bro. Naresh and Bro. Sean who attended to their tasks with much urgency.

When the curtains fell, I evaluated, it was a day well spent.

I like the look of the National Calendar. I’m ready for 2010 it’s got to be bigger and better. See you next year.
